During my many travels I experienced different feelings and happenings related to the hotel life, still they disappeared diffused among other ones related to the trip. An impression remained in my subconscious that the time spent in a hotel is a special time, sometimes as if “suspended” in the relation to the everyday time, but still composing a separate wholeness. This time I wanted to see what decides about this peculiarity. This is why in April 2004 I decided to spend some time in Bremen hotels and focus my attention on analyzing feelings of a hotel guest. My diary and photos (
Notes from Day to Day) result from a subjective look at this phenomenon from the many possible sides.
This project is also a trial to acquaint myself with opinions of the others on the topic interesting for me. Statements which you can meet on this web-site come from two sources: firstly from an inquiry which I carried out among guests of Bremen hotels (
Other Figures), secondly – from a forum placed on the web-site (
Be a Next Figure), which is an open invitation to participate in the project, addressed to visitors of the site.
In a part entitled
From a Labyrinth of the Memory, I included fragments of recollections from my stays in hotels in different cities. However
From a Hotel’s Manual is a selection of instructions concerning required behaviours of a hotel’s staff.
